Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Lab offer summer science education
Visitors to South Bass Island once again have the chance to explore Lake Erie science and history at the South Bass Island Lighthouse, the Aquatic Visitors Center and on Gibraltar Island this summer. Gibraltar Island and the South Bass Island Lighthouse are owned by Ohio State, and all three attractions are managed by Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory.Read more

American Sign Language Program engages students and deaf community
Stepping out of a classroom and applying learning to real-life situations can be daunting and intimidating, but it creates valuable and eye-opening lessons for students. The American Sign Language (ASL) Program at Ohio State encourages this through their service-learning course. Leaving the comfort of a classroom and entering true deaf space is beneficial both for the students education and the deaf communitys opportunity to gain allies.
Ohio State recognized for Excellence in Community Engagement
Ohio State has been named as the 2019 recipient of the Ryan, Moser, Reilly Award for Excellence in Community Engagement Institutional Leadership from the Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC). As a founding member of ESC, Ohio State is a national leader in community engagement and engaged scholarship with efforts spanning across the university, throughout the state and beyond.
Cope named Reviewer of the Year for the Journal of Community Engagement and Scholarship
Virginia Cope, associate dean at Ohio State Newark and associate professor in the Department of English, has been named the 2019 Reviewer of the Year for the Journal of Community Engagement and Scholarship (JCES).
Partnering to prevent falls
There is a dire need to prevent falls among the 65+ year-old population as they are the leading cause of non-fatal injuries for this age group. Depending on the type of fall, they can cause head injuries or bone fractures, specifically hip fractures, which are a major concern and need immediate care. Dr. Carmen Quatman, orthopedic surgeon at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedics, notes that one in seven falls lead to fractures.
