Engaged Scholars Academy inaugural cohort

The Office of Outreach and Engagement kicked off the Engaged Scholars Academy with its first meeting at the Fawcett Center at the end of August. The one-year cohort-based leadership and professional development initiative is aimed at strengthening engaged scholarship at Ohio State and building relationships between community partners and faculty.

Apply Now: University Outreach and Engagement Awards

Ohio State is seeking nominations for the 2026 University Outreach and Engagement Awards, which honor faculty, staff and students for outstanding achievement in producing engaged scholarship and community impact. Awards will be given in three categories: Community Engaged Scholar, Community Engaged Practitioner (for staff) and Community Engaged Graduate Student. Apply by Dec. 19.

Call for Proposals: Programs of Excellence in Engaged Scholarship

To support and promote high-impact engaged scholarship, the Office of Outreach and Engagement certifies programs of excellence in engaged scholarship. The certification process seeks to identify up to 20 projects annually that demonstrate excellence in community engaged scholarship and meet the criteria of high-impact engaged scholarship. Proposals are due Dec. 19.

    2022 Outreach and Engagement Funded Grant Proposals

    The following 2022 Outreach and Engagement grants have been selected for funding. This year, $204,710 was awarded at a maximum amount of $20,000 to support development of impact reports for programs, performances or exhibits; development of a public policy document or impact report; development or implementation of a program, performance, exhibition, or initiative based upon previous research, assessment, or public input; or enhance or expand a program that extends community access to the university, broadly defined.

    Team led by Program on Dispute Resolution Director Katrina Lee awarded $250,000 grant from AAA-ICDR Foundation

    The American Arbitration Association-International Centre for Dispute Resolution Foundation (AAA-ICDR) has awarded a $250,000 grant to support a project led by Moritz College of Law Professor Katrina Lee (Principal Investigator), Department of English Professor Simone Drake (Co-Investigator), and Department of African American and African Studies Professor Judson Jeffries (Co-Investigator). The project is titled Improving Internal Police Negotiation and Communication Tools to Improve Police-Civilian Interaction. The projects focus is on assessing internal climate dynamics and social relations within the Columbus Division of Police and developing culturally-informed negotiation training modules that will help to improve internal communication, diverse recruiting, retention, and police-civilian interactions.

    Clark earns national faculty community engagement award

    Jill Clark, associate professor in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, has earned the 2022 Excellence in Faculty Community Engagement Award from the Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC). Clark received this national recognition for her leadership with the Franklin County Local Food Council (FCLFC).

    Engaged Scholars: Terri Teal Bucci

    My professional endeavors have been focused on community-engaged scholarship since arriving at The Ohio State University in 1999 as an assistant professor of Mathematics Education. Following promotion to associate faculty in 2004, my community-based scholarship broadened; from embedded scholarship and teaching with K-5 teachers in a rural district, to interdisciplinary and international field work in Haiti. All along, I was able to act on opportunities to develop as a scholar of outreach, which provided the experiences to contribute to the field of Mathematics Education.

    Wexner Center for the Arts to offer free gallery admission

    The Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University unveiled a new partnership that will allow the institution to welcome guests free of charge, beginning June 10. Guests can avail themselves of free admission with the centers multifaceted exhibition Portal For(e) the Ephemeral Passage, which opens next month.
