Ohio State is seeking nominations of programs, scholars and practitioners for the 2023 University Outreach and Engagement Awards, which honor faculty, staff, students and community partners for outstanding achievement in producing engaged scholarship and community impact. Awards will be given in three categories: High Impact Program, Community Engaged Scholar and Community Engaged Practitioner (for staff). The deadline to apply is January 31, 2023.Learn More

Williams named faculty fellow
Valarie Williams, professor of Dance, has been named a faculty fellow in the Office of Outreach and Engagement. In this role, she will be coordinating and leading the universitys efforts to complete and submit its Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement application. As a professor of Dance, Williams collaborates on artistic projects producing critical conversations connecting scholarship in the arts with solutions for global societal change.Read more
Applications are open for the annual OSEP awards
In collaboration with Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP), the Office of Academic Affairs has opened a call for grant proposals that align with the universitys sustainability goals; advance diversity, equity and inclusion goals; or provide research opportunities to students who have had limited exposure to undergraduate research and experiential learning opportunities. Submissions are due Feb. 10, 2023. Faculty, staff and students are eligible to apply. Awards range from $10,000 to $50,000.Learn more and apply

Alliance for the American Dream promotes collaboration and benefits central Ohio
Home ownership on a middle-income budget is a step closer to being realized for 10,000 central Ohioans, after a proposal by a team of Ohio State University faculty and community partners was selected for investment in the Alliance for the American Dream competition. The project, Power of Home, is an innovative digital service platform and suite of resources that leverages the purchase of a first home as a springboard for increasing income, reducing expenses and maximizing the economic potential of the home.
College of Dentistry Provides Special Smiles
Twenty College of Dentistry students, residents, and faculty shared their time and expertise at the Special Olympics Special Smiles program on Saturday, June 29. In so doing, the providers joined Special Olympics worldwide effort to ensure that people with intellectual disabilities have access to high-quality health care.
Foulis receives Engaged Scholarship Research/Creative Activities Grant
Dr. Elena Foulis, Department of Spanish and Portuguese, has been named one of five nationwide recipients in the Engagement Scholarship Consortiums (ESC) 2019 Engaged Scholarship Research/Creative Activities Grants Program for Faculty. Foulis received the grant from ESC to work with a new group of students this academic year on oral history and performance. The proposed work enters into dialogue and conversation with the memories of oral history narrators, performers, and their audience.
Cervical cancer prevention focus of new $11 million grant
A major public health initiative aimed at preventing cervical cancer in at-risk Appalachian families from Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia is underway with support from an $11 million National Cancer Institute grant to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC James).
