Engaged Scholars Academy inaugural cohort

The Office of Outreach and Engagement kicked off the Engaged Scholars Academy with its first meeting at the Fawcett Center at the end of August. The one-year cohort-based leadership and professional development initiative is aimed at strengthening engaged scholarship at Ohio State and building relationships between community partners and faculty.

Congratulations to the 16 faculty who have been named to the inaugural Engaged Scholars Academy cohort. The academy is a one-year, cohort-based leadership and professional development initiative that supports faculty at the ranks of assistant and associate professor in strengthening their engaged scholarship.

Call for Proposals: Programs of Excellence in Engaged Scholarship

To support and promote high-impact engaged scholarship, the Office of Outreach and Engagement certifies programs of excellence in engaged scholarship. The certification process seeks to identify up to 20 projects annually that demonstrate excellence in community engaged scholarship and meet the criteria of high-impact engaged scholarship. Proposals are due Dec. 19.

Ohio State's Community Partnership Breakfast: Nov. 21

Please join us for Ohio State's inaugural Community Partnership Breakfast on Nov. 21! The event will bring together community and university partners to deepen relationships and explore new opportunities for collaboration. Breakfast and networking, along with a display of graduate student posters, will start at 9:30 a.m. The program begins at 10 a.m. RSVP by Nov. 6.

    As vice provost for the arts, Lisa Florman will support and advise the central administration on arts and culture initiatives, priorities, and strategies. In doing so, she will facilitate the integration of the arts into the universitys tripartite mission of scholarship, education, and service. She will support greater collaboration between arts entities on our campuses and the communities we serve. Her efforts will link Ohio State to arts organizations across Ohio and the nation as well as around the world.

    Ohio State appoints Ryan Schmiesing as senior vice provost for external engagement

    The Ohio State University has selected Ryan Schmiesing as senior vice provost for external engagement. As senior vice provost, Schmiesing leads Ohio States external engagement strategy that connects the universitys expertise, scholarship and service to local, statewide, national and international communities. He also provides leadership of regional campus strategy and operations in partnership with campus deans and directors.

    As the pandemic rolled on, Metlock challenged herself to find innovative ways to combat the sharp health disparities the nation was coming to grips with. The result was Black Health Explained, an online platform that delivers health-related information to young Black people through blogging, videos, infographics and other content on Instagram and her website.
