Ohio State Energy Partners makes annual philanthropic awards
Ohio State Energy Partners has provided more than $800,000 to programs through its 2021-22 philanthropic awards. The awards provide funding for proposals that align with Ohio States sustainability goals and support the continuation of successful initiatives or the development/implementation of new programs or research projects that continue the trajectory of meeting the goals. As part of its commitment to academic collaboration, OSEP contributes $810,000 annually to the university or affiliated philanthropic causes.Read more
Williams named faculty fellow
Valarie Williams, professor of Dance, has been named a faculty fellow in the Office of Outreach and Engagement. In this role, she will be coordinating and leading the universitys efforts to complete and submit its Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement application. As a professor of Dance, Williams collaborates on artistic projects producing critical conversations connecting scholarship in the arts with solutions for global societal change.Read more
Learning from each other Inside-Out
Creating dialogue, immersing students in unfamiliar environments and encouraging experiential learning are all part of the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Programs mission. Inside-Out brings incarcerated and non-incarcerated college students together in an educational environment within a prison, where they can learn side by side with students of different backgrounds than them.
COVID Connect bridges gap between community need, expert support
In a time when many of us feel increasingly disconnected out of public health necessity, an effort led by the College of Public Health is bringing together those in need with those most able to offer assistance. COVID Connect, a project to unite health departments and other organizations with professional volunteers willing to share their expertise, already has begun to serve as a lifeline during an unprecedented time in modern history.
Taking anthropology to the public
After scientific racism propaganda was found on Ohio States campus in 2016, the Anthropology Public Outreach Program (APOP) was created to help educate the public and the Ohio State community on biological anthropology, human and cultural variation, and connecting the dots between science and humanities. It is important to look at how the concrete science of biology and the cultural pieces of a persons environment work together. There is a bigger picture that includes how the societal parts impact the human body.
University Outreach and Engagement Awards announced!
Ohio State's University Outreach and Engagement Awards honor faculty, staff, students and community partners for outstanding achievement in producing engaged scholarship and community impact. This year 11 awards were given in four categories: Community Engaged Scholar, Community Engaged Program, Community Partner and Community Engaged Champion.
IDEA encourages a more engaging and accountable democracy
Expanding democracy studies at Ohio State from being primarily faculty-oriented toward more student and community engagement was the idea behind the Institute for Democratic Engagement and Accountability (IDEA). When IDEAs director, Michael Neblo, rebranded the program in 2017, he knew he wanted its mission to relate to three main areas: generating and disseminating knowledge about American political institutions; creating dialogue and deliberation; and enhancing the education of citizens.
