The Office of Outreach and Engagement has placed a greater emphasis on the scholarship of engagement over the past year through its grants and awards programs. In an effort to further advance this work and raise its profile at the university, we are forming a Community of Practice (CoP) for Ohio State faculty. If your scholarship is in any way focused on connecting the "rich resources of the university to our most pressing social, civic and ethical problems," (from Boyer, 1996, The Scholarship of Engagement), we would invite you to participate in this CoP.

The next community of practice meeting will take place on April 29 from 2-3:30 p.m.

Ohio State's University Outreach and Engagement Awards honor faculty, staff, students and community partners for outstanding achievement in producing engaged scholarship and community impact. Congratulations to this year's recipients!

Recipients will be recognized on April 13 at the event OSU Engages: Celebrating Engaged Scholarship at Ohio State.

2021 University Outreach and Engagement Awards

The Council of Graduate Students (CGS), in partnership with the Office of Outreach and Engagement, Office of Student Life, Office of Research, and Ohio State University Extension (OSUE) is pleased to announce the availability of the Engaged Scholar Grant.

The Engaged Scholar Grant incentivizes graduate and professional students to undertake community-engaged research or community-engaged projects, in collaboration with a community partner, that address a specific need or problem within the community (in-state, out-of-state, and international). Graduate and professional students may apply for grants ranging from $500 to $1,500.

Grants may be used to support new and/or expand existing research and/or projects related to well-structured community-engaged initiatives. All students are required to collaborate with a community partner for their proposal and research/project. Students conducting research/projects within the state of Ohio will be connected with Ohio State University Extension to potentially collaborate with the County Extension Office on their research/project. Upon being awarded the grant CGS will connect students with appropriate Extension officials. However, students are encouraged to connect with their local Extension Office prior to submitting their grant application.
