Join the new STEM Community of Practice
|
|
The Office of Outreach and Engagement invites individuals to come together as a community of practice to share resources, ideas, impact and expertise related to STEM-based outreach and engagement programs, focused on youth, adult and community participants. The overall goal of the community of practice is to provide opportunities for individuals to come together to build collaborations and learn from each other. The first meeting will take place Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. via Zoom.

Please join colleagues for the Seed Fund for Racial Justice Symposium on Oct. 12. Doors will open at 8:15 a.m. for breakfast and networking. The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The symposium will feature panels and lightning talks from recipients of Seed Fund for Racial Justice Grants.

Ohio State Energy Partners grants fuel sustainable initiatives
|
|
Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP), the universitys comprehensive energy management partnership, has announced 2021-22 grants that will support students, faculty and staff in research projects that promote sustainable energy and environmental initiatives. OSEP contributes $810,000 each year to the university or affiliated philanthropic causes as part of its commitment to academic engagement.

Lisa Florman named vice provost for the arts
|
|
As vice provost for the arts, Lisa Florman will support and advise the central administration on arts and culture initiatives, priorities and strategies. In doing so, she will facilitate the integration of the arts into the universitys mission of scholarship, education and service. She will support greater collaboration between arts entities on Ohio States campuses and the communities that the university serves. Her efforts will link Ohio State to arts organizations across Ohio and the nation as well as around the world.

Beth NeCamp to retire January 2023
|
|
After 31 years of service at the Wexner Medical Center, Beth NeCamp will retire in early January from her role as executive director of community and civic engagement, a role she has had for the past two years. During this time, Beth has built a culture of community and civic engagement and elevated the Wexner Medical Center as a trusted community partner on advancing health equity and improving access to health services in the community.

WestFest is an annual public engagement event that highlights STEM research, sustainability initiatives and outreach programs at The Ohio State University and beyond. WestFest brings together STEM units from across campus and select community partners to present family-friendly activities. This years event will take place Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. 2 p.m.

Registration open for the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities Annual Conference
|
The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) Annual Conference will take place Oct. 23-26 in San Diego. The conference theme is "The Essential Role of Urban and Metropolitan Universities." The conference is focused on CUMU member institutions, their community partners, and their work addressing contemporary challenges through dialogue and presentations delivered in a variety of formats that allow for in-depth conversations and actionable next steps. Ohio State faculty and staff will receive the CUMU member rate when registering.

Food Sovereignty Workshop: Community-Centered Approaches for Food Systems Transformation

If you are interested in the cultural contexts of local food systems and exploring cross-cultural, community-partnered fieldwork, register for this workshop taking place Oct. 13-14. The event will explore how the assets local communities bring to these projects can transform research and more.
