Jason Reece to serve as vice provost for urban research and community engagement

Jason Reece will serve as vice provost for urban research and community engagement, effective Jan. 1. In his new role, Reece will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to create a strategic vision for academic partnership with Ohio States local communities. He will contribute to OAA's strategic focus area in external engagement, which seeks to forge strong, mutually beneficial connections with external communities. He will serve as a key advisor to academic leaders by using an asset-based approach to address major challenges facing local communities.

Ohio State faculty, staff, students share racial justice work at symposium

During the Seed Fund for Racial Justice Symposium, Ohio State University faculty, staff and students discussed work they have collaborated on with community partners to bring about positive social change. The symposium was the culmination of efforts that began when the university established the Seed Fund for Racial Justice in 2020, said Ryan Schmiesing, senior vice provost for external engagement in the Office of Academic Affairs.

Over the summer, OSU Extension and the Office of Outreach and Engagement partnered to bring a series of diversity, equity and inclusion workshops to staff working in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) program.

Meet the 2022-23 Columbus-Athens Schweitzer Fellows!

The Schweitzer Fellows Program supports and trains emerging health-focused graduate and professional students in creating and carrying out service projects to address unmet community needs. This year, five fellows are conducting one-year community service projects. Fellows partner with an existing community agency in the Columbus or Athens area and have both an academic and a community-based mentor.

Columbus-Athens Albert Schweitzer Fellows Program info sessions

Community-Engaged/Service-Learning Course Development Grants

The Office of Service-Learning is pleased to announce the Community-Engaged/Service-Learning Course Development Grants program for the 2022-2023 academic year. These grants of up to $4,000 are available to any Ohio State instructor who would like to develop or improve a community-based course. There will be an information session on Nov. 10. Applications are due January 22, 2023.

Global Teaching and Learning Grant

The Office of International Affairs, the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation are sponsoring a faculty grant competition to develop internationally focused learning and cultural exchanges at Ohio State, using a variety of platforms and mediums. Proposals are sought for initiating new and inclusive global teaching to internationalize the learning experiences and impact students beyond the traditional classroom or study abroad. Deadline to apply is November 18.
