Patterson Lecture with President Kristina M. Johnson

President Kristina M. Johnson will deliver the 2022 James F. Patterson Land-Grant University Lecture on April 12. The lecture annually features a prominent figure to speak to the range of challenges facing land-grant institutions in the 21st century and beyond. Limited in-person seating is available and the event will be livestreamed.

Application open for 2022-23 Engagement Grants

The Office of Outreach and Engagement is seeking applications from faculty and/or faculty-led teams, and university staff that hold PI status, for the 2022-23 Engagement Grants. Grants will be awarded up to $20,000 to support development of impact reports for programs, performances or exhibits; development of a public policy document or impact report; development or implementation of a program, performance, exhibition, or initiative; or enhance or expand a program that extends community access to the university. There will be an information session on March 14. Application deadline is April 15.

Engaged Scholarship Symposium April 12

Join the Office of Outreach and Engagement for the Engaged Scholarship Symposium on April 12. This symposium will highlight faculty who are co-creating scholarship with our community. Through panel discussions, participants will learn more about the innovative and impactful work of engaged scholars at Ohio State.

The Office of Outreach and Engagement is offering two grant opportunities for university staff: Outreach and Engagement Professional Development Grants and Outreach and Engagement Community Programs and Events Grants. Both grants are for a maximum of $500. Applications due April 22.

Community Connector Q&A: Kip Holley

In his role at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, Kip Holley studies the process of community engagement through the lens of structural racism. Generally, he does this work through academic research and writing in a more traditional manner. However, in keeping with Kirwan's mission as an applied research institute, he also works with an array of community partners to combine lessons learned from both research and practice to understand and remove barriers to meaningful participation for people of color.

CETE selected to be Ohio States nominee for 2022 Kellogg and Magrath Awards

The Center on Education and Training for Employment (CETE) has been selected to be Ohio States nominee for the 2022 C. Peter Magrath and W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Awards. CETE earned the nomination through a competitive selection process earlier this year. The center partners with stakeholders to develop evidence-based interventions designed to contribute to the health and well-being of urban and rural communities. Particular attention is given to policy development that results in widespread use of proven practices.

The Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC) seeks proposals for its 2022 conference taking place Sept. 21-22. The annual meeting will be hosted at the University of Georgia and will explore the theme of The Impact of Engaged Scholarship: People, Purpose, and Passion. The 2022 ESC Conference will provide a platform for intentional conversations about the many ways that community engagement impacts communities and the academy. Proposals will be considered on any topic clearly connected to the advancement of community engagement. Proposals due March 31.

The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) invites proposals for its Annual Conference, The Essential Role of Urban and Metropolitan Universities, Oct. 2326 in San Diego. The conference invites participants to consider the essential role urban and metropolitan universities play in leading a recovery grounded in community, equity, and innovation. Proposals due March 25.

Submit a nomination for the 2022 ESC Awards of Excellence in Engaged Scholarship

The Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC) supports and encourages excellence in engaged scholarship through its annual ESC Awards Program. The annual Awards Program recognizes higher education institutions and their exemplary contributions to scholarship and the practice of engaged scholarship. The 2022 ESC Awards of Excellence in Engaged Scholarship will recognize exemplary institutional programs in the following categories: Student, Faculty, Staff, Community Partner, and Institution. Nominations due March 25.

Compact22 is Campus Compact's all-virtual 2022 national conference. It is the largest and most inclusive national conference focused on the role of higher education in building healthy communities and fostering a just and equal democracy.

Ohio Campus Compact Annual Meeting: Requests for Proposal

Ohio Campus Compact's Annual Meeting is being held on Aug. 4 at The Blackwell Inn & Pfahl Conference Center at Ohio State. The theme is "Cultivating Change and Sense of Belonging on Campus: The Future of Community and Civic Engagement." Proposals due March 18.

Summer Intensive on Community-Engaged Scholarship

Michigan State Universitys Office for University Outreach and Engagement is hosting the 5th annual Summer Intensive on Community-Engaged Scholarship. The target audience is early-career faculty and advanced graduate students who are interested in community-engaged research and teaching. Through interactive workshops, field trips, lightning talks, case studies, panel discussions, and individual consultations over five days, June 6-10, participants will explore issues related to community-engagement and develop plans for their own successful engagement efforts. Applications are due by April 4.
