Outreach and Engagement grants announced
|
This year 11 proposals were selected for funding through the Outreach and Engagement grants process. More than $200,000 was awarded at a maximum amount of $20,000 to support development of impact reports for programs, performances or exhibits; development of a public policy document or impact report; development or implementation of a program, performance, exhibition, or initiative based upon previous research, assessment, or public input; or enhance or expand a program that extends community access to the university, broadly defined.

Clark earns national faculty community engagement award
|
Jill Clark, associate professor in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, has earned the 2022 Excellence in Faculty Community Engagement Award from the Engagement Scholarship Consortium. Clark received this national recognition for her leadership with the Franklin County Local Food Council.

Outreach and Engagement Staff Grant recipients announced

Congratulations to the recipients of Spring 2022 Outreach and Engagement staff grants! Grants were awarded by the Office of Outreach and Engagement through a competitive process in two categories: professional development and community programs and events. Each recipient earned a $500 grant.

Buckeye Center for Hearing and Development funded for $250,000 capacity-building project
|
The Buckeye Center for Hearing and Development recently earned $250,000 in funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute for a two-year project to build stakeholder capacity. The project, led by Derek Houston, professor in the College of Medicine, and Carrie Davenport, post-doctoral research scholar in the College of Medicine, will result in a Family Research Council.

Engaged Scholar Q&A: Terri Teal Bucci
|
Terri Teal Bucci's professional endeavors have been focused on community-engaged scholarship since arriving at Ohio State in 1999 as an assistant professor of Mathematics Education. Following promotion to associate faculty in 2004, her community-based scholarship broadened; from embedded scholarship and teaching with K-5 teachers in a rural district, to interdisciplinary and international field work in Haiti. All along, she was able to act on opportunities to develop as a scholar of outreach, which provided the experiences to contribute to the field of Mathematics Education.

OPEN studies impact of policy on reproductive health and equity

As legislation regulating reproductive healthcare has increased in Ohio and other states over the past decade, a need emerged to observe the impacts of the laws and policies passed. The Ohio Policy Evaluation Network (OPEN) was created to fill gaps in data about reproductive health.

Ohio State Energy Partners makes annual philanthropic awards
|
Ohio State Energy Partners has provided more than $800,000 to programs through its 2021-22 philanthropic awards. The awards provide funding for proposals that align with Ohio States sustainability goals and support the continuation of successful initiatives or the development/implementation of new programs or research projects that continue the trajectory of meeting the goals. As part of its commitment to academic collaboration, OSEP contributes $810,000 annually to the university or affiliated philanthropic causes.

Campus Compact Impact Awards applications now open

Every year, Campus Compact seeks to recognize outstanding faculty, community engagement professionals, and academic institutions for their transformational leadership in advancing the public purposes of higher education through our Impact Awards. Individuals may be nominated by a colleague or submit an application on their own behalf. Applications are due September 30, 2022.

Register for the Engagement Scholarship Consortiums Annual Conference
|
The ESC Southern Region and the University of Georgia will host the 22nd Annual International Conference in-person on the University of Georgia campus in Athens Sept. 21-22. This years theme is The Impact of Engaged Scholarship: People, Purpose, and Passion. Ohio State faculty and staff will receive the ESC member rate when registering.

Registration open for the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities' Annual Conference
|
The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities Annual Conference will take place Oct. 23-26 in San Diego. The conference theme is "The Essential Role of Urban and Metropolitan Universities." The conference is focused on CUMU member institutions, their community partners, and their work addressing contemporary challenges through dialogue and presentations delivered in a variety of formats that allow for in-depth conversations and actionable next steps. Ohio State faculty and staff will receive the CUMU member rate when registering
