Apply to be Ohio States nominee for the Kellogg Award

The Office of Outreach and Engagement is seeking applications from university community engagement programs for the internal process to select Ohio States nominee for the 2022 W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Award. The regional award, from the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities and the Engagement Scholarship Consortium, recognizes extraordinary community engagement initiatives. Universities can only nominate one program per year. Applications are due by January 14, 2022.

Outreach and Engagement Staff Grant recipients announced

Congratulations to the 20 recipients of 2021 Outreach and Engagement staff grants! Grants were awarded by the Office of Outreach and Engagement through a competitive process in two categories: professional development and community programs and events. Each recipient earned a $500 grant.

Apply now for the University Outreach and Engagement Awards!

Ohio State is seeking nominations of programs, scholars and practitioners for the 2022 University Outreach and Engagement Awards, which honor faculty, staff, students and community partners for outstanding achievement in producing engaged scholarship and community impact. Awards will be given in three categories: High Impact Program, Community Engaged Scholar and Community Engaged Practitioner (for staff). The deadline to apply is January 7, 2022.

Community Connector Q&A: Connor Jones

Connor Jones is the program coordinator for the Buck-I-SERV alternative breaks program at Ohio State. During a typical year Buck-I-SERV sends out about 1,000 participants to serve with communities all over the country and the world. He advises the undergraduate Buck-I-SERV Board, selects student trip leaders and participants, and manages trip logistics, among other responsibilities.

Applications are open for the annual OSEP awards

In collaboration with Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP), the Office of Academic Affairs has opened a call for grant proposals that align with the universitys sustainability goals, advance Ohio State priorities, and promote interdisciplinary and community collaboration. Submissions are due Feb. 11, 2022. Faculty, staff and students are eligible to apply. Awards range from $10,000 to $50,000.

Mary Rodriguez: Helping communities combat food insecurity

Associate Professor Mary Rodriguez specializes in community leadership, which empowers people to address their needs, whether its food security or other poverty challenges, to lead their communities through change. Shes done this in her work abroad, in low- and middle-income countries, and at home with New Americans, recent immigrants or refugees to the U.S.

I want my research to be impactful, and in order for it to be impactful it needs to incorporate the voice of the community for sustainable change, she says. If I come in and say, Here are all your problems and heres how to fix it, thats not sustainable."

Community-Engaged/Service-Learning Course Development Grants application now open

Instructors are invited to submit applications for the 2022 Course Development Grants. Up to $4,000 is available for the creation or improvement of a community-engaged/service-learning course. Instructors from any Ohio State campus are eligible to apply with a course for any academic level and any mode of delivery. Instructors developing service-learning courses for the new GE are encouraged to apply. Applications are due February 1, 2022.

Apply by Dec. 15 for a Barbara and Sheldon Pinchuk Arts-Community Outreach Grant

Any Ohio State student, staff or faculty member can apply for a Barbara and Sheldon Pinchuk Arts-Community Outreach Grant to help connect Ohio State's visual and performing arts with the broader Columbus community. The grant provides direct or indirect support through established centers and schools, but is not limited to specific outreach efforts. The deadline to submit your application is Dec. 15 for projects beginning after Jan. 1, 2022.

Call for submissions: ENGAGE! from IUPUI

ENGAGE! editors invite you to submit manuscripts, as well as pieces reflecting the visual and performing arts, for the next volume to be published in 2022 in three issues. Published by the IUPUI Office of Community Engagement, ENGAGE! is committed to advancing the field of community engaged research and community based participatory research evaluation and assessment in urban settings, nationally and internationally. The deadline is Feb. 1, 2022.

CUMU Learning & Sharing Virtual Series

The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) Learning & Sharing Virtual Series is a free, CUMU members-only program focused on critical dialogue with practical takeaways that create action. This virtual series brings together CUMU administrators, faculty, staff, students, and community partners to learn from one another and share challenges and successes on a set of discrete issue areas. This virtual series is offered at no-cost to CUMU members and their partners. Ohio State is a CUMU member. The series runs through Dec. 14.
