Schmiesing appointed senior vice provost for external engagement
|
|
Ryan Schmiesing has been appointed senior vice provost for external engagement in the Office of Academic Affairs. As senior vice provost, he will lead an external engagement strategy that connects Ohio State expertise, scholarship, and service to local, statewide, national, and international communities. He will also provide leadership of regional campus strategy and operations in partnership with our campus deans and directors.

Join the new STEM Community of Practice
|
|
The Office of Outreach and Engagement invites individuals to come together as a community of practice to share resources, ideas, impact, and expertise related to STEM-based outreach and engagement programs, focused on youth, adult, and community participants. The overall goal of the community of practice is to provide opportunities for individuals to come together to build collaborations and learn from each other. The first meeting will take place Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. via Zoom.

Now available: Second edition of A Practical Guide to Planning Collaborative Initiatives to Advance Racial Equity
|
|
The Divided Community Project and Mershon Center for International Security Studies have released the second edition of A Practical Guide to Planning Collaborative Initiatives to Advance Racial Equity. This edition compiles the learning from U.S.-based multi-pronged and sequenced processes created to advance race equity in this country. Written for use by public officials and community stakeholders, the guide is an early output of research into U.S.-based truth and reconciliation-style commissions by an interdisciplinary Ohio State team that received Catalyst Grant funding through Ohio States Presidents Research Excellence program.

Seed Fund for Racial Justice Symposium Oct. 12

Please join colleagues for the Seed Fund for Racial Justice Symposium on Oct. 12. Doors will open at 8:15 a.m. for breakfast and networking. The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The symposium will feature panels and lightning talks from recipients of Seed Fund for Racial Justice Grants.

Williams named faculty fellow
|
|
Valarie Williams, professor of Dance, has been named a faculty fellow in the Office of Outreach and Engagement. In this role, she will be coordinating and leading the universitys efforts to complete and submit its Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement application. As a professor of Dance, Williams collaborates on artistic projects producing critical conversations connecting scholarship in the arts with solutions for global societal change.

In her latest Academic Voices post, Executive Vice President and Provost Melissa Gilliam writes "Last spring, President Johnson launched Ohio States Shared Values Initiative. Campus Compact Impact Awards applications now open
|
Every year, Campus Compact seeks to recognize outstanding faculty, community engagement professionals, and academic institutions for their transformational leadership in advancing the public purposes of higher education through our Impact Awards. Individuals may be nominated by a colleague or submit an application on their own behalf. Applications are due September 30.

Registration open for the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities' Annual Conference
|
The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities Annual Conference will take place Oct. 23-26 in San Diego. The conference theme is "The Essential Role of Urban and Metropolitan Universities." The conference is focused on CUMU member institutions, their community partners, and their work addressing contemporary challenges through dialogue and presentations delivered in a variety of formats that allow for in-depth conversations and actionable next steps. Ohio State faculty and staff will receive the CUMU member rate when registering.

Register for the Engagement Scholarship Consortium's Annual Conference
|
Virtual registration is still available for the Engagement Scholarship Consortium's annual conference Sept. 21-22. This years theme is "The Impact of Engaged Scholarship: People, Purpose, and Passion." Ohio State faculty and staff will receive the ESC member rate when registering.
