Patterson Lecture with President Kristina M. Johnson
|
President Kristina M. Johnson will deliver the 2022 James F. Patterson Land-Grant University Lecture on April 12. The lecture annually features a prominent figure to speak to the range of challenges facing land-grant institutions in the 21st century and beyond. The event will be livestreamed starting at noon. In-person seating has reached capacity.

Application open for 2022-23 Engagement Grants
|
The Office of Outreach and Engagement is seeking applications from faculty and/or faculty-led teams, and university staff that hold PI status, for the 2022-23 Engagement Grants. Grants will be awarded up to $20,000 to support development of impact reports for programs, performances or exhibits; development of a public policy document or impact report; development or implementation of a program, performance, exhibition, or initiative; or enhance or expand a program that extends community access to the university. Application deadline is April 15.

The Office of Outreach and Engagement is offering two grant opportunities for university staff: Outreach and Engagement Professional Development Grants and Outreach and Engagement Community Programs and Events Grants. Both grants are for a maximum of $500. Applications due April 22.

Provost Gilliam's latest blog focuses on external engagement and impact
|
In Provost Melissa Gilliam's latest Academic Voices blog post, she highlights Ohio State's role as an anchor institution, providing long-term stability and economic impact to our communities. She notes that one important contemporary validation of the institutions longstanding community engagement can be seen in the fact that the Carnegie Foundation has classified Ohio State as an Engaged University since 2008.

Engaged Scholarship Symposium April 12
|
Join the Office of Outreach and Engagement for the Engaged Scholarship Symposium on April 12. This symposium will highlight faculty who are co-creating scholarship with our community. Through panel discussions, participants will learn more about the innovative and impactful work of engaged scholars at Ohio State.

Engaged Scholar Q&A: Jill Clark
|
Associate Professor Jill Clark is interested in how we can collectively govern the food system to advance equity and well-being. As such, her research, teaching, and service center on community and state governance of food systems and inclusive and equitable public participation. A couple of current projects include Modeling the Future of Food in Your Neighborhood, which co-develops tools to promote a more equitable food system in the city of Cleveland, and Pathways to Prosperity, which aims to strengthen the value-added food and agricultural sector in rural communities to increase community wealth.

Congratulations to the 2022 Outreach and Engagement Award recipients! The awards honor faculty, staff, students and community partners for outstanding achievement in producing engaged scholarship and community impact. Awards were given in the following categories: Community Engaged Scholar, Community Engaged Practitioner, High Impact Program, Community Engaged Champion and Community Partnership.

University research in the neighborhood: The perspective of community members
|
While many faculty, staff and students are actively conducting research in the community, the voice of community members is often missing or underrepresented in this work. Four Ohio State faculty members recently completed a study to inform Ohio State leadership and researchers about community and neighborhood leaders' perspectives on Ohio State research, specifically as participants in research, but more generally as community and neighborhood leaders.

Engagement Scholarship Consortium grant applications now open
|
Through the Engaged Scholarship Research/Creative Activities Grants Program for Faculty, the Engagement Scholarship Consortium is providing financial support that helps facilitate positive outcomes for both scholars and communities. Faculty at ESC member institutions (Ohio State is a member) may apply for up to $5,000 to fund a one-year project. Collaborative projects among faculty from more than one discipline and/or at more than one university are encouraged. Preference will be given to tenure-line assistant or associate professors. Applications due May 9.

Apply for the Emerging Engagement Scholars Workshop
|
This intensive professional development program, a preconference event of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium annual conference, provides advanced doctoral students and early career faculty with background literature, facilitated discussion, mentoring, and presentations designed to increase their knowledge and enhance their practice of community-engaged scholarship. The workshop takes place Sept. 19-20. Applications due April 30.
