Outreach and Engagement Staff Grants
The Office of Outreach and Engagement is offering two new grant opportunities for university staff. The Outreach and Engagement Community Programs and Events Grant provides staff working in outreach and engagement spaces the opportunity to create and implement community engaged programs, while the Outreach and Engagement Professional Development Grant provides staff working in outreach and engagement spaces the opportunity to further their career growth and development. Both grants are for a maximum of $500 and applications are due by 5 p.m. on Sept. 30.Learn More
Nominations sought for Provost's Discovery Themes Lecturer Program and Patterson Lecture
Nominations are being sought for future editions of the Provost's Discovery Themes Lecturer Program and the Patterson Land-Grant University Lecture.
The Provost's Discovery Themes Lecturer Program brings eminent authorities to Ohio State to address topics related to the Discovery Themes and to engage students, faculty, staff and members of the community in thoughtful examination of major issues of public concern.
The Patterson Lecture brings to campus annually a prominent figure to speak to the range of challenges facing land-grant institutions in the 21st century and beyond. The lecture challenges the university and community audience to continue to use their knowledge and resources and work together to solve world issues.Nominate a speaker
Engaged Practitioners Network Meeting Oct. 1
The next meeting of the Engaged Practitioners Network will be Oct. 1 at 10 a.m.
The Engaged Practitioners Network is for those Ohio State staff who are working in spaces of community outreach and engagement. We will provide an opportunity for sharing best practices as well as networking with colleagues across campus. We hope to amplify collaborations, share best practices and increase professional development opportunities.Register and learn more
2021 Outreach and Engagement grant recipients announced
The Office of Outreach and Engagement has awarded more than $215,000 to 23 recipients of 2021 Outreach and Engagement grants. Grants were awarded at a maximum amount of $10,000 to support development of impact reports for programs, performances or exhibits; development of a public policy document or report; or support for a team to develop a grant proposal or finalize a manuscript for publication submission.Read more

Public health faculty, staff create COVID-19 surveillance tool for schools
A kindergartner develops a sore throat, so he visits the school nurse. A teacher and two students at the middle school next door call in sick with fevers. Across town, a second grader at another elementary school in the district goes home after a bad cough sets in. All this information is entered into a system called the COVID-19 Analytics and Targeted Surveillance System (CATS), monitored by staff throughout the school district and the local public health department for signs of coronavirus outbreaks.
Community Engaged Learning: Blueprint Columbus and Senior Capstones
Join the Environmental Professionals Network on Dec. 1 and learn about Blueprint Columbus' partnership with Ohio State for improved outreach and engagement in Columbus neighborhoods. And then, hear about effective strategies for conducting this work remotely from Ohio State faculty with extensive community-building experiences. The event will include presentations and a Q&A with students who completed senior capstone projects related to community outreach.
Ohio State study finds charities are struggling during pandemic
Amid the persistent challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, nonprofits across Ohio are struggling from the economic fallout at a time when the public and government need them most. To better understand the situation, the Ohio Attorney Generals Office partnered with the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations, Philanthropy Ohio and researchers at The Ohio State Universitys John Glenn College of Public Affairs to produce the ongoing The Ohio Nonprofit COVID-19 Survey to gather information on Ohios nonprofit organizations and how to help them through this difficult time in history.
