Partnership with BalletMet brings Ohio State medical care to dancers

While the athletic trainers at The Ohio State University are best known for supporting Buckeye student-athletes, a small group also works with dancers, musicians and other performing artists. The Performing Arts Medicine program connects performers with physicians, surgeons, trainers and other specialists.

Applications are being accepted for the Outreach and Engagement Documenting Impact Grants. Grants support program evaluation and impact reports for community-engaged research or community-engaged projects, in collaboration with a community partner, that addresses a specific need or problem within the community. Applications are due Feb. 25.

Applications open for the Schweitzer Fellows Program

The application for the 2025-26 cohort of Columbus-Athens Albert Schweitzer Fellows is now open. The Schweitzer Fellows program supports and trains emerging health-focused graduate and professional students in creating and carrying out service projects to address unmet community needs. Applications are due Feb. 3, 2025.

Apply today for the annual OSEP awards

In collaboration with Ohio State Energy Partners (OSEP), the Office of Academic Affairs has opened a call for grant proposals that align with the university's sustainability goals; align with advancing access, engagement and inclusive excellence goals; or promote research translation. Submissions are due March 17. Faculty, staff and students are eligible to apply. Awards range from $10,000 to $50,000.

    Faith Mission Outreach Eye Clinic

    Life can be scary when you cant get the help you need because of your past. The pain of needing to explain yourself over and over again to different people is often worse than receiving a difficult diagnosis. Until she came to the Faith Mission Outreach Eye Clinic, that was exactly the case for a recent patient. She came to the clinic, which is run by Ohio States College of Optometry, with complaints of severe headaches as well as a recent weight gain and a whooshing sound in her ears. But because the patient was a past drug addict, the three emergency rooms she had visited all thought she was just seeking drugs for her habit.

    Engineeering Outreach in Honduras

    Engineering students have been travelling to Honduras to visit the Montaa de Luz orphanage for children with HIV/AIDS every spring since 2005. Including this years journey, more than 100 students have taken part in the initiative, which has produced a broad range of projects, including water system improvements and a computer lab for the orphanage.

    Students Studying Abroad in Brazil

    Over the summer, Destiny Jackson, a senior majoring in Sociology and Film Studies, took part in Ohio States Global Gateway Study Abroad program in Brazil. The program is open to students of any major who are interested in learning about the global significance of Brazil. Destiny received a grant from the Office of Outreach and Engagement to help fund her month-long experience abroad. During the trip she went to the cities of Sao Paulo and Araraquara in the southeast, and Salvador in the northeast of Brazil.
