Connect and Collaborate Grants Program

The Spring 2017 Connect and Collaborate Grants Program incentivizes faculty, staff, students and their respective public/private sector community partners to submit pre-proposals which have the potential to catalyze engaged, collaborative teaching, research, and service activities benefiting the community with impactful, sustainable programs while advancing the scholarly goals of the university.

This program is designed to bring together multiple, available resources and leverage existing community platforms to develop programs that achieve measurable, positive impacts in communities.

The deadline to submit a pre-proposal for the Spring 2017 Connect and Collaborate Grants program was February 1, 2017 at 5 p.m.

Grant Tracks

Grant funds will be made available on a competitive basis using three grant tracks.

Planning Grants (up to $25,000)

Planning grants support development or improvement of a program at any point in its life-cycle. Teams that demonstrate support and excitement for starting or enhancing a program will be invited to develop an action plan designed to move the program to the next logical stage.

Implementation Grants (up to $40,000)

Implementation grants are intended for programs with a clear purpose based on demonstrated need, comprehensive planning, where partnerships are established, and early successes have accrued.

Expansion Grants (up to $70,000)

Expansion grants support scale-up of an established program's infrastructure and capacity to increase positive impacts. Expansion grants provide funds to existing programs deemed to be of high quality based on documented evidence.

Process

A Stewardship Committee will select pre-proposals that address priority issues and have potential to become successful projects/programs with long-term viability.

Key elements of a successful pre-proposal include:

  • Alignment with priorities. As noted in the call for pre-proposals, International; Ohio's 88 Counties; Central Ohio; and Industry Research and Development priorities are identified. The alignment of the pre-proposal to these priorities is a factor in successful pre-proposals.
  • Evidence of community partnerships. Strong pre-proposals should provide evidence of engaged partners. Partnerships should include community partners who would be essential to the success of the program through their involvement in development and implementation of the proposal. Partnerships may also include relationships with university colleagues. Cost share is an extremely strong indicator of invested partners.
  • Impacts of the proposed program on the community AND on research, teaching and/or service. Pre-proposals should clearly describe potential short-term and long-term impacts on the community and research, teaching, service and scholarship outcomes – including how these will be measured.
  • Financial sustainability. Pre-proposals should include a vision and/or growth plan for long-term financial viability of the program beyond the Connect and Collaborate Grants Program funding. Considerations should include: how the program will be grown (including an exit strategy if relevant), financial support for the program, and how the program can transition effectively after the Connect and Collaborate funding ends.

Selected pre-proposals will be developed into full proposals over a six-week period by Development Teams consisting of applicant team members and a Steering Committee.

The Steering Committee will contribute targeted networking and program development expertise. This will enable a better perspective of the challenge and the capability to devise more effective and sustainable solutions. Working with a Steering Committee to deliver a final proposal n is a required activity for all selected pre-proposals. Applicants will need to set aside sufficient staff time for full proposal completion.

Stewardship Committee members will invest in the project with funding, pending full-proposal approval.
